Spotify Organic Promotion

We are Spotify users and, no matter how many followers or the type of subscription we have, we are allowed to create playlists and make them public. Most of us tend to look for new music to hear so we type in the music genre we're looking for (Techno, EDM, Hip-Hop, House Music, Dance, etc..) and click the first 1-5 playlists that Spotify shows us.

Did you noticed that the playlists we go through have the same or very similar songs for the same artists, why?

Answer is, the Spotify Algorithm tend to show us playlists that:

  • include artists we usually listen to / are very similar to the ones we listen to

  • include artists with very high amount of plays / streams

  • tend to have the highest number of followers.

End result is, we all end up listening to the same music and playlists over and over.

There are so many incredible indie artists with a tremendous amount of music out there who cannot rely on major labels budgets and hardly will get the chance to have an organic reach to get their music heard!

We’ve been there as well as artists and it’s frustrating.

We believe that listening to playlists with a fair mix of great music from indie artists together with top producers are beneficial to both:

  • the listeners, who can access to new music they will never have the chance to listen to

  • the indie artists, who could reach a wider audience, being associated to top producers and getting more visibility and monthly listeners on Spotify.
